We helped the naked boy to his feet, and then Luna took off her sweatshirt and handed it to him. He tied it around his waist like a loincloth.
He had shaggy, reddish-brown hair that hung to his shoulders. Dark brown eyes were narrowed as he looked around at his surroundings.
I stepped forward. âHi, Iâm Gabriella. You probably need a minute. Do you want to sit down?â
He groaned. âI feel like Iâve been on a year-long acid trip. My whole body hurts.â He looked at his hands, turning them over and over. âI canât believe Iâm me again.â He lifted his brown eyes to search our gazes. âHow did this happen? I thought I would be stuck like that forever.â
Remy clapped me on the back. âOur girl here is amazing! One little touch from her and ⦠poof, you were standing in all your naked glory, right here in front of us to ogle.â
I gave the boy a nod. âI wish I could stay and chat but I need to go check on our friend Hannah. Iâll be back.â I started to leave when Trev shook his head.
âWhen we dropped her off in your room, she asked to be left alone. She probably just needs a half hour to process. Sheâs been through a lot.â
She was one of my best friends, so I didnât think that I would count when she said she wanted to be alone.
Remy touched my arm. âLetâs give her half an hour, okay? And then we will break down the door if she refuses to let us in.â
I nodded. âOkay.â
I needed to keep busy, or I would fall to pieces myself. The boy and our victory was all but forgotten as I started to think about Finn.
Trev cleared his throat. âGabriella, I know your instinct is to go after Finn, but I think, if you chase after him, he will run or, worse, go into hiding. He is unbelievably powerful in this new form, and it must scare him.â
Remy nodded. âHe doesnât want to hurt you, babe.â
âThe bond is obviously still there,â Ezra added. âHe can sense when you need him, like tonight. My suggestion is we lay a trap for him, and he will come to you.â
I wanted Finn now, but what they said made sense. âWhat kind of trap?â
âThe marked still need to be free,â said Trev. âJust trying to figure out how to do that will be dangerous. Plus, now that we know you can change the wendigos back to their original self, there will be moments when you are naturally scared. The commander will sense your fear.â
I thought back to what the headmistress had said. âAnd I know exactly which wendigo marked your peopleâthe one that is tied up.â
âWithout the headmistress, though,â Luna piped in, âwe wonât be able to control the wendigos.â She looked around the room. âShe wouldnât happen to be part of this carnage, would she?â
I shook my head. âAfraid not. She escaped while her guards were being torn to shreds.
